If you live in a little area, particularly one in which you are able to see straight from the entryway to the living area and beyond, it’s important to keep the style and color scheme consistent throughout the apartment. A mix of midcentury modern–style pieces with warm, earthy accents is a simple and attractive look which works particularly well across an whole apartment. I’ve packed this ideabook using space-conscious design finds that work superbly together, in any combination. Happy decorating! — Laura from Lolalina
ABC Carpet & Home

When you’re short on space, seeking out smartly designed double-duty pieces is essential. I adore the traditional-meets-modern appearance of this tufted sofa from ABC Carpet & Home. Its sleek armless shape means it will fit easily in even a tight area. Additionally, it folds out into a bed for guests.
Jayson Home
Hutton Coffee Table – $1,450
If you’ve got sufficient space (even barely enough room) for a larger coffee table, then I say go for it. It’s wonderful to be able to spread out your newspapers and coffee on a Sunday morning, or heap on the snacks for a night in with friends. I am smitten with the geometric wire base of this reclaimed pine version.
Jayson Home
Village Table – $575
If you can’t carve out enough room for a full size coffee table, try using a set of smaller tables instead, such as two of those wonderfully textured wood piece. Bonus: If you need room to work out or perform yoga at home, you may easily move smaller tables such as these aside and roll out your mat.
Bodie and Fou
Gaivota Rocking Chair – GBP 1,010
This magnificent rocker from Bodie and Fou has won multiple design awards, and with good reason. Its sleek, sculptural lines will probably fit in anywhere, and it is ergonomically designed to be unbelievably comfortable, whatever your height.
Schoolhouse Electric
Bryant Concrete Table & Desk Lamp With Metal Shade – $329
This concrete lamp from Schoolhouse Electric is the best balance of cool and warm with its clean lines and intriguing textures. I really like how the Edison bulb gently glows through the metallic mesh colour.
Anthropologie
Egil Rug – $598
Contemporary furniture shapes beg for something soft to play off of, and this super fluffy rug in Anthropologie fits the bill perfectly. If you’re concerned about spills, then take heart that wool is surprisingly resilient and easy to care for — just often spills sooner rather than later, and you should be OK.
Serena & Lily
Persimmon Paint – $45
I am the first to admit I am a little color-shy — when it comes to painting my house, I stick mainly to pale neutrals. However, a stylish and modern area such as this is primed for a warm, rich hue. I’d paint one accent wall using this persimmon paint from Serena & Lily and the rest of the walls gallery whitened.
Room & Board
Hudson Media Cabinets With Steel Base – $2,299
In an apartment, appropriate storage is essential. I’d use this long, low media cabinet from Room & Board to home both my tech equipment and linens to the dining room table.
Substance and Goods
Classic Japanese Ceramic Vase, Earthy Matte Brown – $55
I am a strong believer that each room needs something old, and when I spied these vintage Japanese ceramic vases, it had been love at first sight. The wabi-sabi, natural shapes are so amazing. They’re perfect for tucking into a bookcase or setting out on a desk.
Lulu & Georgia
Abella Floor Screen – $635.80
If you live in a studio or loft, dividing the area can be complicated. Try out a timeless decorator trick and place a decorative display between two areas. An open style like the one shown here isn’t meant to give complete privacy, but it can do a nice job of dividing the distance, as well as incorporating a pleasing design element.
Goal
Target Home Storage Web – $19.99
I saw those woven felt baskets in person in Target the other day, and that I was really impressed by their quality. If I did not know better, I’d believe they cost a lot of money. Use one for knitting projects, favourite magazines or whatever else you like to keep handy.
Flying Swallow Printing – $24
This evocative limited-edition publish by artist Don Carney has been on my favorites list for a while. The woodblock style and muted color would make a rich, natural addition to your space.

This concrete planter full of succulents feels refreshing and modern. I’d really like to keep one on my desk. Fresh green plants include so much to a space, and I’d count this petite potted plant as just the beginning of a bigger collection.
West Elm
Parson’s Desk, Diamond Grass Cloth – $499
So far as desks proceed, you really can’t go wrong with the simple lines of a parson’s- style table. West Elm has recently introduced several versions covered in grass cloth, and I particularly love this one using its chic diamond print.

Holden Desk Chair – $1,495
This iconic desk chair would be a worthy splurge, in my book. It is going to never go out of style, it looks great everywhere, and it’s supremely comfortable.
Anthropologie
Big Glacier Planter – $34
This container is meant to be a planter, but I’d use it like a very appealing wastebasket under the table instead. Of course, it would also be lovely full of greenery, should you want.
Goal
Threshold Vintage Milk Crate, Light – $24.99
I am always on the lookout for storage solutions, and these vintage-style milk crates from Target recently caught my attention. They’d work either stacked on the ground or put on shelves for anything from kids’ toys.
The Paris Market
Metal Stacking Trunks – $240
Speaking of storage, those stacking metal trunks in The Paris Market are the type of thing you would be tempted to exhibit, even without anything inside them. Of course, in a little area, every inch counts — so fill them instead with older photographs, out-of-season clothes or whatever else you need to store.
Lulu & Georgia
Sutton Table
A trendy, studded demilune table from Lulu & Georgia will be perfect in a little entryway, even if your front door opens directly into the living area. It is big enough to keep your keys, bag and mail handy, but its curvy shape retains a low profile.
Jayson Home
Desert Sunburst Mirror – $895
This sunburst mirror in Jayson Home definitely gets the “wow” factor. I’d hang it in the entryway over the demilune table.
