Corrugated metal roofing can withstand the test of time and comes in many different colors to help match the exterior color scheme of the house. Metal roofing installation needs specific metal roof screws which are equipped with a steel washer with a neoprene seat on the base of the washer. These screws have to be installed in the right compression against the steel to guarantee the neoprene washer is properly sealed across the hole in the steel.
Install a magnetic driver bit of the requisite size for the heads of the metal roofing screws into a power drill. Set the drill’s direction indicator to the forward or clockwise position.
Position the metal roofing into the desired place. Insert the head of a self-tapping metallic roofing screw in the bit on the end of the drill. Bend the drill so the length of the screw is perpendicular to the steel roofing, and press on the tip of the screw against the metal roofing. Depress the trigger on the drill and push the self-tapping screw through the steel and into the wood below. Stop driving the screw when the neoprene washer makes solid contact with the steel roofing.
Inspect the washer on the head of the screw. The neoprene seat ought to be marginally visible on all sides of the metallic washer but should not appear to get squished out from the borders of the screwthread. If the neoprene seat isn’t compressed much enough for the washer to be visible, tighten the screw until it is evenly visible around the screwthread. If the washer appears deformed, set the drill into reverse and back out the screw slightly until it appears to be seated properly.
