Around the house, towels are expected to work pretty difficult. They dry your dishes, clean your counters, mop up your spills, and greet you when you exit the shower. That moisture, along with exposure to germs, can make your towels a hotbed for germs. This means they need a little additional consideration in which laundry is concerned, especially in regards to washing these things with your own clothing.
In Hot Water
Washing your items at the proper temperature is critical for maintaining all of your laundry clean, but it’s especially important when towels are involved. Every time you use a towel to dry a surface, you are potentially transferring germs into the towel, which can later be moved to your garments during a clean. It’s ideal to wash towels with hot water onto a normal or heavy duty wash cycle – but these settings may not be perfect for your garments. Always be sure to inspect the care instructions labels in your attire.
Sort Smarter
To maintain your laundry as sanitary as possible and protect the quality of your items, properly sorting laundry is key. Should you wash towels with clothing, always wash like-colored things together. Never overload a machine during the washing or drying process.
Skip the Softener
Don’t use fabric softener, when washing clothing and towels with each other. While good for your garments, they can leave a picture on kitchen towels, making them unsanitary for routine use. Kitchen towels may also collect soap from washing dishes and palms. Rinse and dry thoroughly before adding into the wash.
Believe Bleach
When washing white towels and white clothing items together, bleach is a strong cleansing agent not only to eliminate stains but also to destroy germs and germs. However, it can result in stains and damage your clothing. Constantly check out wash care instructions as soon as available.
Clean Machine
To maintain your towels and clothing clean, a primary concern is your washing machine itself. Especially if you’re doing multiple loads of laundry, then wash your white things first with hot water and bleach as it will clean your machine in the process. Monthly, run a vacant wash cycle with hot water and a capful into 1/4 cup of bleach.
Drying Tips
Before ditching used towels to the hamper with clothing, always let them air dry . This can help minimize the chance of mould, mildew and any related scents that can transfer to your clothing during the washing and drying process.
