The NFL season kicks off Thursday with a matchup of this Super-Bowl winner Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints; gold and green versus gold and black, lovers donning their cherished cheese heads from the Aints, the Bundle pitted against the Who Dats.
The start of this soccer season is all the more remarkable as just a few weeks ago we didn’t believe there are a year. But the players and owners worked through their differences, putting the fans and games above all else. So as the air turns cooler and the leaves begin falling, there is only 1 thing left to say:
“Are you ready for some football?” Here are 8 components of the perfect place to cheer on your team.

Designing Solutions
1. A space that’s not overly large but not too tiny. If the space is too small it’ll be claustrophobic and people will not like — not mind being able to see — the match. If too large, the area is going to have the feel of one of those 75-percent empty stadiums, where the silence could be fatal.
2. Soundproofing. The sound will get turned upward and there’ll be clapping, shouts of anguish, cheers and more. So if the space isn’t in a bunker you are probably going to need to have lots of sound-absorbent materials like cloth, carpet and curtains in your space. Of course, this most likely is at odds with having a room that’s simple to clean. (See point number 8.)

3. A fantastic television or two. Something slim, horizontal and attached to the wall. It should be (ultra) high definition and also with a terrific audio system. You’ll want to see every blade of grass and listen to every tackle.
Don’t mount the television too high because we do not need a pain in our thirties out of watching. And do not make it too small. A good, though not-cast-in-stone rule is to use half the maximum viewing distance as the screen size (diagonally). If the viewing distance is, say, 8′, a screen size of 48″ would do the job. (Of course, being a guy I tend to err on the bigger size, so I would go with a 56″ set.)
4. Comfortable seating. Perhaps not the designer”oh-my-this-chintz-fabric-is-to-die-for” type of seats, but the kind that’s durable, easily cleaned of spilt beer and nachos. Something you won’t freak out when it gets damaged when a guest re-enacts that devastating, game-altering fumble. Materials like canvas that can be cleaned or leather that can be wiped down. And that old standby in the’70s, naugahyde (made from real naugas naturally ).
5. A place for all this food. Let’s face it, what is a soccer game without tons of food to nosh on? And it has to be finger food: pizza, wings, nachos and so on. No knives forks to get in the way of hammering, fist bumps and high fives. The perfect place for all that food is a counter or large table within sight and sound of this game.
6. Beer here! Yes, there’ll be a few partaking of libations. So having lots of ice cold beer and sodas close by is essential. An under-the-counter beverage center will do when there isn’t room to get a full size fridge.
7. Halftime break. Okay, everyone has been eating, drinking and watching the sport for awhile. It is time for a toilet break, thus a powder area nearby will come in handy. And perhaps everyone might want to go out, get some fresh air and toss the pigskin around, so simple access to the outside are going to keep the rest of the home from turning into a game-day mess.
8. It ai not over until the fat lady sings (or everyone pitches in to clean up). Now it is time for the dreaded article game cleanup. A sink and dishwasher nearby will come in handy. And though the perfect space would be easily hosed down, that’s probably impractical for most of us.
Easily washed down, mopped surfaces will do just fine. Vinyl tile, linoleum and even hardwood are much better options than carpet. One of my favourite flooring materials is cork as it’s simple to stay clean and the tiles may be replaced if broken. Another option, if the space is in the cellar, is stained concrete.
